NEED AND ADDED VALUE FOR THE DANUBE REGION STRATEGY
The Moldova Veche port is located on the Danube River, at the junction of two pan-European transport corridors (Corridor IV and Corridor VII). There is growth potential at the Moldova Veche Port, if the river traffic could be carried out to a greater extent by the large industrial units in the region with the increase in the port’s capacity to handle cargo.
Moldova Veche is included in the TEN-T comprehensive network.
OBJECTIVE(S) OF THE PROJECT
Modernization of Moldova Veche port infrastructure.
PLANNED PROJECT ACTIVITIES
Commercial Port Sector
- Modernizing of the existing vertical quay L= 200ml
- Dredging in front of the berths
- Modernizing of the stone-lined quays L =360ml
Touristic miniport
- New stone-lined quays L=375ml
- Adjacent access platform and car parking 3500 m²
- Launch ramp
- Dredging in the miniport
- Way of connecting the miniport area with access at existing road
- Utility networks
TRANSBOUNDARY IMPACT
Improvement of traffic conditions between Romania and other countries in the Danube region by increasing the port capacity of cargo handling and storage.

Start date: 2019
End date: 2021
The project is currently under preparation.
NOTES
The project D. A. N. U. B. E. – Danube Access Network – Unlocking Bottlenecks in Europe, by developing a high-quality TEN-T ports infrastructure in Romania on optimal economic terms (Feasibility Study phase), financed from the TEN-T programme, prepared the future investments for the infrastructure modernization in Moldova Veche Port.
The feasibility study was finished in December 2009 and needs to be updated.
FINANCING
Total budget: 4,82 MEUR
EU funds: 3,04 MEUR (ERDF)
The project will be submitted for financing from the Large Infrastructure Operational Programme 2014 – 2020 (POIM).
National funds: 1,01 MEUR
Financing is not available yet and sources and amounts are potential only.
