PLATINA was a coordination and support action aimed at the promotion of inland waterway transport (IWT). The main objective of PLATINA was to support the European Commission, EU Member States and third countries in the implementation of the NAIADES action programme.
PLATINA II was the follow-up project of PLATINA. The main objective was to support the Commission, Member States and third countries in the implementation of the NAIADES I and II action programmes by bringing together all relevant actors concerned in a broad knowledge network, thereby maximising its contribution to the European policy goals.
Several rehabilitation measures were already conducted at the lock in order to maintain its functionality. Until 2024, a replacement construction will be built 45m downstream of the existing weir and lock.
The lock Obernau has reached its theoretical service lifetime. A replacement construction will be built 160m downstream of the existing weir and lock.
